Drive Belt Replacement

Just lost the drive belt on my 07 Stratoliner S
Dealer wants over $500 for a new one. Does anybody have any suggestions?
I think I could change the rear sprocket to a 65 tooth and get a cheaper belt. Does anyone know how that will affect my mileage or power?
Thanks

Belt

I think you can shop around and find the belt cheaper if you choose to install it yourself. I think some have even used Harley belts.

According to a post on the Liner Wiki you will be changing the reduction by 7%. So 7% lower RPM at highway speed. You will also feel less acceleration but you could make up for this by using fourth gear more. The feeling of the author was you would improve gas mileage due to lower RPM. At 55 MPH I prefer the stock pulley. No doubt for the Interstate the 65 tooth may be better.

I don't think by the time you buy a belt and pulley you would save any money. Odds are you would never replace it again. If you change it you should do it because you want to change the Gear ratio. The supplier in the article probably can cross to a direct replacement if you contact them. (phatperformanceparts.com)

I know this is a dealership in AZ, but if you order through their catalog online, you can get a significant savings. This is the cheapest place I found for Yamaha parts. You pay the wholesale price if you order it yourself verses letting them order it.

Retail $583.00, wholesale $455.00

Guess I'll never complain about the price of a Harley part again, the belt for those is about a couple hundred bucks for oem, can be far less for aftermarket.
Five hundred is nothing short of ridiculous.

Belt

You can buy the belt for $190. Or you can use a Harley belt for $209

Agreed! My buddy just used a Harley one on his '08 Strat and it works perfect.

Drive Belt Replacement

I broke my second drive belt in 107,000+ miles on my '06 Strat and due to the cost I bought a Gates belt for a Harley. I know I must drop the swing arm but, how much trouble is it? What do I need to be looking out for?
