My poor iron horse is very sick...
The middle driven shaft got broken and now I face a situation in which I have to look for a complete running engine since it would cost me a whole less than to change the broken shaft and then the seals, gaskets etc...
I've noticed that almost every engine I find on e-bay is P608E while I require a P604E (Ministry of Transportation is very strict and does not allow changing the original engine type).
Does anyone know of the reason for the difference?
OK, I can't help this... Does anyone know where I can find an engine to schlep internationally to the (un)holyland?
Thanks.
I will look into this.
Although I am not sure this will apply to my case. The middle drive actually broke after the rear wheel traveled once too many too high due to a high road hump... This ruined the joint and I am also be required to replace the rear shock absorber... Anyway, the main problem is that replacing the middle drive requires replacing the entire shaft set with the 90 degree connection, hence opening the engine altogether and then beginning to replace gaskets, seals, etc...
I will send this to my mechanic. He's a fellow rider and a good chap. I hope he find this helpful... So far, his best idea is to machine the shaft adn attach to it an extension... But maybe this would be even better...
Thanks
what's the difference between a 604 and 608 engine i thought all 1100 vstar engines were exactly the same i know the california model uses a different tank and later engines had fuel cut offs on the carbs but as far as i know the engine itself are the same for the xvs 1100s the xs1100 is a whole different animal
I have no idea.
I just know that since I was advised to obtain an importation permit for an engine from our Ministry of Transportation and since Israel is following the European standardization philosophy (unlike you guys in the Wild (motorist) West), I am compelled to import only a P604E engine...
I suppose there are very minor differences, probably country related, but still... I must stick to what is written in the title...
I do know those are case casting numbers, so perhaps it only designates and early or late production. Depending on how complete the engine is....coming with carbs and other stuff already attached, it could be the difference between 2006-up engines that came with cats in the exhaust and fuel shut off solenoids on the carbs.
The basic engines and all internals are interchangeable.
to make matters even more confusing.....here is my engine casting number....614, and it's a 2006. So possibly in your model year there was an early and late engine casting number. Again, all internal components are interchangeable and the engines didn't change internally from about 1985 when they were introduced in the Virago.
OK, last update...
The mechanic brought in an expert machinist to doa precision installation of the screw to go in place of the broken shaft end.
While at it, we are going to replace the rear tire (heck, I can't find whitewalls in Israel.. I will probably have to pop over to Greece or Germany to bring a set with me... Oh well.. some souvlaki or a nice wurst will make it worth my while)..
Only problem now is that I installed a second hand hypercharger I bought on e-bay and it cane without the air filter...
Does anyone know what is hte replacement air filter part No. for this Kuryakyn hypercharger model?
If not the air filter No., can someone identify the hypercharger itself? The seller is quite a mix up expert.. One place it said 7029 and in another 9423 and I believe it is neither...
As soon as my horse is back on the road, I will take a picture of him for you guys... You know.. Motorcyclist porn...
