Exclamation Definitive answer on re jetting 98 v star 650

Hey everyone,
I am going to buy the vance and hines cruzers for my 98 v star 650, im getting alot of controversy about re jetting the bike and the best way to re jet as far as what kit or size jets to use. and obviously if i have to re jet the bike anyway i will go ahead and install a k & n or something for the air. what i really need to know is do i absolutely HAVE to re jet the bike if all i do is put on the new pipes? if i don't mess with the air intake at all? im not really concerned with power i just don't want my bike to sound like an rc toy anymore. thanks guys.

Yes you will need to re-jet. I put the Cruzers on 2 weeks ago. They sound great and are worth every penny. My intake is stock and ran for a day or so before rejetting and found I had a lot of popping on deceleration. These pipes flow more and will cause a lean fuel mixture which can cause damage over time due to increased cylinder head temps. There are several jets kits out there which usually include main jets, needle jets and spacers, and drill bit to remove the plug covering the PMS screw. I found a company on Ebay that will customize a jet kit for your specific setup and provide you with detailed instructions. It's not a hard job and really should be done. My bike runs great, sounds great and even has a tad more power. It also fixed my hard to start issue when the engine was cold. Starts right up now without the choke.

Alfa if it's still popping on decel open your PMS's 1/8 turn and repeat as necessary till popping goes away or to a level you like.
