Leaking oil!

Hello all. I have a 07 1100. I noticed I have a bit of oil leaking out of the front of my engine. There is a little black cover looking thing right by the exhaust port. Does anyone know what this is or why it would be leaking oil? Thank you! Didn't get a chance to get a picture. Sorry.

that cap covers where a timing chain tensioner would go if the jug were used on the rear cylinder, the jugs can be used front or rear, you can ether buy a new gasket or seal it with high temp silicone

Thank you! I just took the black cover off and the old seal was rock hard. Put some high temp rtv on it. Should be good to go now! But my engine and starter and what not has some old oil and dirt on it. What would be the best way to get all that off? Degreaser and a hose?
