Found this site on the R6 forum. Just got an '08 V-Star 250 for my wife to learn how to ride (I ride an R6), but I'm liking this little V-Star a lot, too! My first bike was a Virago 535 and I really liked it, so when she expressed an interest in riding I steered her to the Virago/V-Star line. She's diggin' it.

I am the very proud owner of the 2008 V Star silverado 1100, I have some questions from you pros. What fuel milage can I expect to get after the machine is broke up. Secondly is there anyway to increase the milage. Lastly, Where can I purchase, hats, jackets, coats, or protective equipment baring the V Star logo

Hi all. I've wanted to own and ride a motorcycle since I was 14.
So, I've finally got my endorcement and did a great deal of research
into training motorcycles.

I ordered a V Star 250 09 model just yesterday.
It's also the same bike I trained on with the MSF course.

I've already posted a series of questions down in V-star.
Hope some elmer reads it and offers comment helpful.

thanks for the group,

Charlie

Hello all!

A bit about myself.

I've been riding something with two wheels and an engine since way back in the dark ages when gas was .25 cents a gallon. About '68 or '69. Some sort of minibike with a 5 (or was it 3?) HP Briggs&Stratton engine. Then I bought a used Honda SL70. It had been stripped down for racing although I never did. During most of my teens I didn't ride. The 'fumes got to me. You know, gas fumes (cars) and perfumes. ;) Did pick up a used '76 Honda XT350 after high school and road that thing into the dirt. Then bought a used '76 Yamaha DT something (Enduro 250) and road that until 1986.

In Feb. '86 I bought my first street bike. I went to the Yamaha shop and ordered an '85 RZ350. Still have the bike although it's showing it's age now.

May 30th this year I went with a buddy who was bike shopping. Heck, I wasn't even planning on buying a bike, let alone really looking for one and walked out of the shop with a brand new (one mile on the odometer ) Star Raider!

I've put just over 5300 miles on it this summer! :D

BTW, my buddy walked out with a V-Star 1100 in BlackCherry red with the silver ghost flames that day. That cute little sales gal had a really good day that day. ;)

I just bought a 2008 Roadstar Silverado 1700cc on 9-27-08. So far I am well pleased with the new bike.
I am a disabled union painter and teach at the local jr. college parttime and ride every chance I get. This is my fifth bike going back to 1964 when my first was a Yamaha Catalina 250cc 2-cycle.
It was a good bike but had people run me off the road with it. I am glad I found this website for Star.

Stay Safe,

Hello, I recently purchased a 2000 Vstar 1100 Custom having 5100 miles, black, good condition. Since i hadnt ridden sinnce 1980 and never ridden anything other than off rode 350 i felt i should learn more. i attended MSF rider safety class, got my license, riding gear, and have put about 750 miles on it in the last two months, i enjoy riding. i am continuing to practice slow speed turns in parking lots, learning alot from yall on this site and other motorcycle safety sites. Thank you very much for your help to learn about motorcycles, vstars, and rider safety, it is a blessing to have resources like you. Thank you for having this helpful site. Thank you for your patience with my very basic questions and i hope to be a contributing resource also one day.

Hello,

New to this site, but not new to riding or V-Stars. I am an environmental biologist by day and a computer tech by night :). I bought my 2001 V-Star 1100 Classic in late 2000...one of the first ones here in Mississippi. It has been a really great bike over the years....no reall issues to speak of. Good to find a forum that deals with our bikes...

Hi All; new to the forum but not to bikes. Been riding since forever. Started back in late '50s and still going like the energizer bunny. I've had one heart-attack, three stents and an implanted defibrillator but ain't giving up my bike. Bought my first V-Star in '98 (650) and swapped it for a 1100 classic in 2004. I'll probably keep this one till I die.

If I'm not out riding, or shooting photos, I'm home on the computer producing bike/car posters.

Hi. I'm Rodney Crouse from Halifax, Nova Scotia. I'm into countdown mode right now. I'll be getting my new 2009 V-Star 650 custom on Monday. It had to be ordered. It came in but has to be assembled.

My last motorcycle was a 1975 Yamaha 350, so, needless to say, I'm certainly looking forward to driving after a 30 year absence. Of course, I'm going to treat this like my first drive when I was 16. Gotta learn all over again!!!!:)

Hi all, i am about to upgrade from a Honda VT250 to a Star 950, very excited to be getting back onto a real bike again - the VT250 was a great way back after 30 years out of the saddle.

I am looking for a US tour to hook into, perhaps Star do something like the Honda Hoot.

Best regards from down under

Hello all, new to this site because I'm a new Star owner. I's great that there is a place to go and share thoughts and experiences. I've been married 22 years and my husband always wanted a street bike. I always said "over my dead body". I started riding a 125 dirt bike and after 3 months moved up to a 350 dual sport. After 6 months I sat on a Boulevard and fell in love. I decided to buy a street bike and surprised my husband when I asked if he would want one too. We've been riding Suzuki Boulevard 800's for a few years now and decided to get a bigger bike. I looked at everything and found the Star Raider 1900. I've had it three weeks now and nearly 600 miles already. I'm having way too much fun. I live in Medford, Oregon and the roads are endless and beautiful.

My husband liked my bike so much, that a week later he bought the Star Raider as well. We are quite the pair. Anyways, that's my story. See you on the road!

Well, it is time to feed my obsession.

My names JD. I received my bike permit two weeks ago and now am looking for a bike. I am leaning towards a vstar 650 custom (Which is odd for my age bracket being I am 20). My Dad has a 96 virago 535 and I heard nothing but good stuff about the "Star" line. I will hopefully have one within the next month.

Hi JD. A couple of posts ago, I said I had a new 650 Custom ordered. Actually it was the Classic which I got a week ago. Doesn't matter, be it Custom or Classic, they're still a V-Star 650.

What do I think after having my 650 after only a week? I love it. Riding a bike after a 35 years absence is just like a dream come true for me. Brings back a lot of memories. The 650 is plenty of bike for me. Perhaps some day I'll go bigger, but that would be in the far future.

In my opinion, you can't go wrong with the 650, either design. I know my opinion doesn't carry much weight, being on one for only a week.

Whatever bike you choose, best of luck, have fun and drive safe.

Rod

I am new to this forum. Though I don't own a V-Star yet, I am in the process of buying one from a friend. It is a 2004 V-Star 1100 Classic. It is in excellent condition & I'm looking forward to getting it. I just started riding this year, though I have been interested ever since gas prices went up to $5 @gallon! I presently ride a Honda Nighthawk, but it is too small for me. Once I get the V-Star I will give it to my grown son to learn on (good learning bike). I took the Basic Rider Course from the MSF & went to Sturgis Bike Week right after. I am a pastor & try to ride as often as I can. It will be easier when I get the 1100 because of the size.

Hello all, looking forward to reading the forum. Recently bought a new 1300 Midnight Star, only done 50 miles on it due to weather and work. Guess I'll just have to get it wet and work less. Think I'm in love. I must be past a mid life crisis at 54 but it feels sooooo good.

Hi everyone..Just a few lines to let you know a little about me. I have owned bikes since the mid 50s. and I wish that I had some of them now, like any of the 5 Indians that I once owned.I retired from work 10 years ago after 30 years at Warner Lambert.I worked as an electro mechanical tech. and a plastic injection mold tool maker. The last several years I was riding a Honda Shadow, and I traded it in on my latest bike, a Yamaha 950 Tourer, which I have 8500 miles on already. In my opinion, this is one of the best bikes that I have ever owned. I live in Connecticut and ride year round ( weather permitting ) This seems like a great forum with lots of knowledgeable members.

Nice to be here.

Well I put on the pipes and did not rejet and everything is cool and running right. I've also lowered it 2" moved the controls forward 2"
I also did some art work on the tank which I will post in another thread. Look for it!

G,
After a few miles pull a plug out and look at it. If it is white you might need to rejet. Maybe also watch the exhaust headers to see if they are starting to turn a little.

Did that and ever thing looks good. Also, once the engine warms up if you pull the choke out a little and the engine bogs down, you can be sure it's not too lean.

Well, we still have a little residue of snow so not quite biking weather here in NB but time to do some shopping. I currently ride a 750 Shadow Spirit and am considering a move to the V-Star (either the 950 or 1300). My local dealer has two unassembled 2007 V-Star 1300's (blue) that are going for a great price. I've done some reviews and just a little worried there might be some problems with this model .... anyone care to comment.

Seems like a great site .... I look forward to becoming a V-Star owner and contributor to the discussions!;)

Hello yall, I'm a Yamaha rider since my first one in 1975. Use to think I could motocross ride and really enjoyed it for several years but my first street bike, a 1975 SX650 Yamaha gave me the feeling I had been looking for. Rode a 1100 to death and took on all Kawaski 900's and 1000. I had to sell my bikes years ago and purchased another 1100 a few years ago after my wife left me and I have the fever again. I have a 92 V-Max and yesterday purchased a 85 V-Max. I'm also looking at another 85 model as they are like guns, you can't have too many. Hope to see more V-Max riders in the wind. Later

Happy you are here and glad you are looking at the V star line, Honda puts out one super fine, and very dependable ride no doubt. So does Yamaha, at a lower cost, I believe. I do not think you can go wrong with whatever you feel is right for you, they are all good I believe. I run an 1100 Silverado, after I put on an ork to correct the oil filter grief, I really do love it, but that is just me, different strokes. Hope you are active on the forum, ask and contribute, many here have a lot to share.:)
