i have a 2009 v star 1100. i recently re jetted with the baron kit. then added a full cobra slashdown exhaust. i love the sound. the problem i'm having is although it runs good at idle and even up to a quarter throttle as soon as i go any farther it wants to bog down.i set everything to barons instructions as far as the re jet.according to barons the main jets on 2006 and later bikes do not need to be replaced just the pilot jets. one of the things i've read online and in the forums is that v stars run staggered mains. 115 in the front and 112 in the back. and when you re-jet you should move the 115 jet to the rear carb and use the 117 out of the kit to the front. any one with experience in re-jetting or pms setting for this set up. any feedback would be appreciated

Have you done anything with the intake side?

Sorry about the delay getting back to you. With just the K&N your intake is basically stock.
So your settings should be:
117.5F / 115R Mains
17.5 Primaries (stock)
1 plastic spacer and 1 shim washer below C-clip (stock)
PMS set to 2.0 turns out from stop (approx stock)
This is a good time to drill out your PMS plugs if you haven't already, as you may need to adjust them to quiet exhaust backfiring on decel.

thanks a lot fulltilt 1. i have drilled out the PMS plug. per the baron instructions the PMS is out 3.5 turns. i knew that was to far. to much fuel. the PMS screws are hard to get to to adjust with carb when on bike. i ordered a couple thumb screws to make adjustment easier. again thanks. very helpful

Did you compare the mixture screws? There are two different angles on tips. The shorter tip ones require only half the adjustment out from seat. I missed something up above. The kit reference. Did the jetting numbers have a D in front of them and did you replace the needles? This will change my advice.

i have not received the mixture screws yet. as for the jets i replaced the stock 17.5 pilot with 22.5 no d before no. the mains where not changed. the instructions stated on 2006 and newer v stars the stock main jets will work. i went against my better judgment and left the stock mains in. what i'm going to do is pull the carbs back off and start over. putting 115 mains in the rear and 117 in the front. re check the needle adjustment and in stall the thumb screw pms adjusters. what do you think?

You should only have those primaries (22.5) if you've got PODs (individual filters right off the rubber elbows that attach to carb openings. If you don't go back to the 17.5s. If you just have a BAK your intake air system is still basically stock for jetting purposes. Putting pods on will really let your bike breathe. Hence my 22.5 primaries and 150.0 Mains. I think the 22.5s are the root of your problem.

o.k will try your suggestions. i do have the cobra slashdown full exhaust. you dont think i need the re jet. or just use the 17.5 pilots and use the bigger mains

You mentioned kit above and it sneaked by me. What was in the kit? Some kits come with needles just wanted to verify that you are still using the stock needles.

the baron needle/jet kit
(4) Mikuni Main jets (107.5, 110, 112.5, 115)
(2) Mikuni Pilot jets (2x22.5)
(2) Baron Adjustable Needles
i installed the 22.5 pilot jets and the needles with the clips in the 4th notch i think that was a little rich. the instructions said 06 and up did not need the main jets but they also said to turn the pms out 4 turns. as i said before it bogged out at 1/4 and above on throttle. i just re set to 2 1/2 turns and it runs better but still not right. maybe 3. may go ahead and install main jets to.

Ok so you still need the 117 main jet then? Put your stock needles back in, your not flowing enough air to need richer needles. See the settings on pg 1, use them and it will run. I understand you buying the kit and wanting to use it. Most of the kits out there are just to add on to the profit margin. There are 5 notches on the needles are you counting from the point or fat end? If it said forth notch on the needles that's counting from the pointy end.

Don't know if you've seen this. It was put together by a guy named Dave Slone, with the input of many others. Called the KB by most or Knowledge Base. Contains lots of info on your Star.
