Let me say that I'm not superstitious by no means;) But I know the value of a placebo:D So do you have a riders bell and do you know the Legend?

The Legend, yeah, I think anyone who has been around for a day or two knows it. I run 2 bells, front and back. Does it work? Who knows? On the road a guy needs all the help he can get. Besides, I think they are pretty neat and good lookin:cool: Just an oldtimers thoughts:) Ride safe (with a bell):D

I have one and as the legend goes, the gremlins that get caught up in it while I ride go mad from all of the ringing and they fall out and disapear for ever.

It's a conversation piece, commercial if you wish but still just a conversation piece; adds a little fun when you take a break during rides. It doesn't take away anything or add anything to your riding abilities that's up to the individual riders to hone.

As for the guy in the blue shirt. Where was the finger before....

I've never heard of this bell on a bike thing.

A "Gremlin Bell" or "Angel Bell" or "Ride Bell" is a small bell that some riders attach to the undercarriage of their bikes to ward off accidents/incidents/ill fortune. In order for it to be effective, it must be given to you by another person.

It's no different than a silk flying scarf, good luck dice, pre-flight routine, rabbit's foot, lucky coin, or any other "good luck" charm. etc.

We all have our idiosyncracies and semi-superstitious routines to which we subscribe. I always had a set pre-flight & pre-trip routines for aircraft and commercial vehicles I operated. Combination of safety habit and a belief that if I stayed with a set routine I'd never miss any critical safety item. Passed it on to all my flight students.

My own good luck charm is a key-chain fob with pictures of my Springer Spaniels. They accompany me on all my motorcycle trips. Good luck and companionship.:):):)

I'm a strong believer in positive thinking by whatever means and whatever gets you buy. If you have faith that something that will help, whether it be a bell, rabbits foot, a higher power, four leaf clover or whatever it is all the better. Some folks I have known who have been through the toughest challenges that life can throw at them have had these beliefs that have helped them. Now where do you get these bells because I'm into all the help I can get.

I never thought much about the bells until my buddy gave me one when i bought my V-Star. Then it became a matter of respecting a tradition that my friend was giving me his prayers for safe riding. Be it superstition or whatever...the bells remind me that somebody is wishing us a safe journey.:)

I ride with a bell. Its got a dragon design around it, and is totally awesome. It was also a gift from my mom. Do I think having a bell has anything to do with my safety on the road? Not even jokingly. But am I really going to turn down a gift from my mom?

I've bought a bell for my Dad and one for a friend when he bought his R6 (unfortunately sport bikes have nothing to hook them to!). I kind of see the ritual of giving the bell as more significant than having it on the bike is, even if its as casual as taking it from your pocket and tossing it at the guy. Its like saying "I recognize that you're serious about this biking thing, so stay safe out there." Maybe I'm readin too much into it but there's my 2cents.

The Legend of the Guardian® Bell

http://www.helmetsetc.com/images/accessories/misc/gb-angel_s.jpg (http://www.helmetsetc.com/accessories.asp) Many years ago, on a cold December night, a crusty old biker was returning from a trip to Mexico with his saddlebags (http://www.helmetsetc.com/toolbags.asp) filled with toys and other assorted trinkets for the kids at a group home near where he worked.
As he rode along that night thinking how lucky he had been in life, having a loving riding partner that understood his need to roam the highways and to his trusty old pan that hadn’t let him down once in the many years they had shared the road together.
Well about 40 miles north of the border, in the high desert, lurked a small group of notorious little critters known as road gremlins. You know, the ones who always leave little obstacles like, one shoe, boards, and pieces of old tires on the road, and also dig those dreaded potholes for bikers to run over and crash, thus giving the road gremlins a chance to rejoice over their acts of evil.
Well, as the lone wolf (http://www.helmetsetc.com/search_results.asp?txtsearchParamTxt=wolf&txtsearchParamType=ALL&iLevel=1&txtsearchParamMan=ALL&txtsearchParamVen=ALL&txtsearchParamCat=ALL&headersearch=1&txtFromSearch=fromSearch) of a biker rounded a curve that moonlit night, the gremlins ambushed him, causing him to crash to the asphalt and skid before coming to a stop next to one of his saddlebags that had broken free. As he lay there, unable to move, the road gremlins made their way towards him. Well, this biker, not being one to give up, started throwing things at the gremlins as they approached him. Finally, with nothing else to throw but a bell, he started ringing it in hopes to scare off the dirty little gremlins.
About a half a mile away, camped in the desert, were two bikers sitting around the campfire talking about their day’s ride, and the freedom of the wind blowing in their faces (http://www.helmetsetc.com/apparel.asp) as they rode across this vast country. In the stillness of the night air they heard what sounded to them like church bells ringing, and upon investigating, found the old biker lying along the roadside with the gremlins about to get him. Needless to say, being part of the biker brotherhood, they preceded to ward off the gremlins until the last ran off into the night.
Being grateful to the two bikers, the old road dog offered to pay them for their help, but as all true bikers do, they refused to accept any type of payment from him. Not being one to let a good deed go unnoticed, the old biker cut two pieces of leather from his saddlebags tassels and tied a bell to each one. He then placed them on each of the biker’s motorcycles, as near to the ground as possible. The tired, old road warrior then told the two travelers that with those bells placed on their bikes, they would be protected from the road gremlins and that if ever in trouble, just ring the bell and a fellow biker will come to their aid.
So, whenever you see a biker with a bell, you know that he has been blessed with the most important thing in life—friendship from a fellow biker.

memorex has been banned. he accused all the forum members of being childish but he was the most childish of all. i don't know what happened, but apparently he was insulted on more than one occasion from some posts or members. when he first told me about it a few weeks ago, he wouldn't say who or what even when i asked for specifics. after his recent posts attacking the site and everyone on it, i gave him a suspension and again asked what was the problem so i could deal with it. he again insulted everyone and everything so now he is permanently banned.

the last thing i want to do is ban people. i'm letting you guys know i haven't seen any posts that were personally attacking him or instigating him (until after being provoked) so no one else is in any trouble. and i generally don't 'moderate' unless something is reported or if it is too offensive or too obscene for the general public.

having said that, for the future, i hope you guys will continue to report anything that you or think others may find objectionable. and there's nothing wrong with having fun with each other, but be careful where the line is in your public posts. and refrain from retaliating with each other in the public forums. take it to private messages or let me know so it can be dealt with in a civil manner.

the last thing i want to do is ban people.

As I played a role in this debacle, I will apologize for publicly losing my temper with Memorex.

His increasingly incredible claims and demands for respect finally brought him into focus for what he was, and when that happens on the Internet, the perpetrator had best be prepared for--and be able to withstand--incoming rounds.

He reminded me very strongly of the "stolen valor" crowd that claims credit for military experience and awards when the closest they've ever come to the military is a WWII Ronald Reagan movie.

Of course it's the Internet Anonymous, so we can all be whomever we want to be, but when we start demanding respect for fabrications ("I tore my pants doing a kick spin" "I use one cane, sometimes two" "I can put a bike back up after laying it down while it's still sliding down the road" Really? Seriously? A kick spin must be a challenging maneuver on canes, not to mention that amazing skidding recovery stunt putting a little stress on the lower extremities:rolleyes:)

So yeah, the guy eventually pushed my buttons and I responded. For publicly losing it, I apologize to you personally and to the forum at large.

But I wouldn't lose any sleep over Memorex. I'm quite sure he'll find a niche in one of those metric-hating forums where being banned from the Starbikeforum will be regarded as a minimum membership requirement and badge of honor.

it wasn't. it was his posts in the general and vstar forum calling us all children and demeaning the site as a whole that got him a suspension. and it was his private response to me that got him banned permanently. and ordinarily i would have just kept it private as he is not the first to have been banned, but since several members in this thread were having it out with him, and this is the lounge area, i thought i should share it here.

you guys may want to be careful in the introductions forum as not all new members will initially 'get' your humor. but for the most part, have as much fun as you want on here. it's as much your site as anyone else's so long as we all keep it friendly and nothing R-rated.

However, a 2000 NORML (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Organization_for_the_Reform_of_Marijuana_ Laws)-MAPS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multidisciplinary_Association_for_Psychedelic_Stud ies) cannabis study found that "water pipes filter out more psychoactive THC than they do other tars, thereby requiring users to smoke more to reach their desired effect".[9] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bong#cite_note-8) In the study, smoke from cannabis supplied by the NIDA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Institute_on_Drug_Abuse) was drawn through a number of smoking devices and analyzed. An inhalation machine, adjusted to mimic the puff length of cannabis smokers, drew smoke through a standard bong, a small portable bong with a folding stem, a bong with a motorized paddle that thoroughly mixes the smoke with the water, and two different types of vaporizers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporizer). Comparisons to traditional non-filtered smoking methods were not included in these experiments.
If they would have ask for help in the Traditional inhalation machine:D the study might be so-what different:eek:

The koala says: 'Smoking a joint. Come up and have some.'

So the little lizard climbs up, sits next to the koala and they have a few joints.

After a while the little lizard's mouth is dry, so he tells the koala that he's going to get a drink of water from the river. But the little lizard is too stoned and falls into the river.

A crocodile sees him, flailing about, and swims over to see what's going on. The little lizard explains that he was sitting in the tree, with the koala, smoking a joint, got too stoned and fell into the river while trying to get a drink.

The crocodile says that he has to check this out, and walks into the forest to find the koala. He sees him, still sat in the tree smoking a joint, looks up and says: 'Hey you!'

The koala looks down at him and says:

'Faaark duuude! How much water did you drink?!!

I love the game you have to play in the "Tobacco Shops" in the US...if you say the word "bong" you get tossed out, if you call it a "head shop" you're out, if you say "hand pipe" or "one hitter" you're done. No no none of that, I'm here about the hookahs and decorative vases. And the pollen collectors. And the spice grinders. And the scales for...postage, I guess.

:p

you can't even say "detox". really. sad.

The power of the bell will be doubled if the bell is given to a friend...

Is that true? And what kind of power is that?
