Just saw the national news. A good section of the San Diego Freeway I-405 through Los Angeles will be closed this weekend from Friday 10 pm, July 15 through Monday, July 18, 5 am. :eek:

That's from the Ventura Highway (US 101) coming to and out of the San Fernando Valley through the Santa Monica Freeway (I-10) into Downtown LA!

The term "gridlock" was coined back in the 70's primarily from that section of Interstate. I could imagine how the rest of the throughfares in the area will be like the with closure of I-405 for about 53 hours!

Hey Gaijin, How bad was the traffic this weekend? I heard about the closure quite a bit, but haven't heard how bad the traffic was.

I read an article this morning that said the worst was expected but everybody got a pleasant surprise. More people than expected left their vehicles at home. I wonder if that has any trueth to it?

Jarhead, from the news reports, it wasn't as bad as folks said it would be. Angelenos stayed pretty much off the streets. Some even had block parties to keep. While others that had to work, like hospital staffs stayed overnight at their work sites. Also heard that the contractor would be fined $1K per minute if they go over the planned demolition timeframe. They must have been on time with opening the San Diego Freeway then. :D
