: Increasing HP with...

I recently read a magazine article (stay calm...i believe it was a Harley) were they installed different engine mods and after calculating HP gains on each mod individually they claimed the most HP gain from one specific mod was 20% increase from port and polished heads with larger valves. Other increases per individual mods were around 5% - 9%.

Fultilt1 (you new i had to drag you into this) didn't you just install HC pistons and cams etc, etc? But you did't do any head work?

Back in the days of V-8 (remember those?) the first thing we would do to the 350 was look for '.202 heads' for a port-n-polish. Or boost compression putting 289 heads on a 302. Remember 'closed chamber' and 'open chamber'? Why does it seem that head work has somehow been forgotten?

Maybe i've just been out of scene for too long:confused:

Air powered die-grinder's work well. Still takes a lot of time and a good sized compressor.
.
As I'm sure you know, 20% gained on one type of engine doesn't mean 20% gained on all types of engines,,,

I'm all for 'doing it yourself' if you enjoy that kind of thing and it brings you satisfaction, but, if you have to pay someone for such work, you may consider spending the money on a larger displacement bike instead.

Yep... i used to window shop at the Road Kings until a learned more about the HD's. Now i window shop for Road Stars & Strats. I'm thinking of keeping the 1100 as a toy to tinker with. Decisions decisions.

There was a gentleman in this forum that was selling his Strat for financial reasons. If i was closer i would have gotten serious about buying it from him. I actually kinda hope he gets to keep it.

pfft distance is no issue have him drive it to you and buy the man a coach ticket back home. Of course after driving it 1500 miles he may just keep it,man the strat looks sexy.
