: v Star 950 Accessories ??

I love the bike and overall happy with it, but I want to add some accessories to it.

The problem is that I'm pretty much new to the cycle world (under a year of riding but i took the MSF beg. and recently MSF ADV courses which everyone should take in my opinion) so I don't know the extent of mixing and matching parts. Since this is a new bike, I cant find a sissy bar & exhaust system that I like. I went to the dealership and all they could refer me to getting was the stock sissy bars which again not to thrilled esthetically tho i like the fact that they are quick release. The price on it tho is not so good, about $500. As for the exhaust thanks to Sgt Mike and o4ctd I can wait longer cause they showed a good way to drill it out for deeper and better performance

Anyway, I found a few sites but unsure of them anyone know good places where to get accessories and such for the bike?

Places, I've tried are:
http://www.babbittsonline.com/
http://www.meancycles.com/
http://www.westendmotorsports.com
http://www.cruisercustomizing.com
http://www.pacificcoaststar.com

stock is pretty much the deal,
unless you can weld and fabricate.

and the price is always high, because these parts are pretty much low production.

and there won't be any on ebay since this is the first year of the bike.

yamaha parts are just as much as HD parts, from what I see :(

you might buy the stock parts, and have them powdercoated flat black, or
"smoked chrome"

i had a PILE of parts done in smoked chrome, and that looks GOOD.

hth?

Try looking at the Yamaha site accessories and the OEM parts for the tour model and copy down the part numbers. Then you can search for the part numbers and see who will sell them how much below list and then you can see if your local dealer will match it. Note: The tour backrest is NOT quick release and their grips are made to hold bags which you might not like the extra holes.

The Stratoliner tall quick release backrest STR-2C541-30-02 which lists for $156 and probably takes something like the 5S7-F84A2-T0-00 hardware kit $37 list to mount it on a 950 (check with dealer or part supplier to confirm) is definitely a less expensive alternative.

This doesn't help if you don't like the Yamaha parts.

Wait a few more months and the accessory vendors will have figured out what people want and come up with their offerings.

Thanks for the advice but yeah, I'm not so enthusiastic about the yamaha stock parts. I haven't seen something I really like and I don't want to shell out cash for something that I"m iffy about.

I posted this before but here it is again. For V-Star accessories at a decent cost.

John, if they're same OD size they'll fit but make sure that the cable length will fit the application before you start.

John, I got myself a Show Chrome 28,5 inch dragbar together with 12 inch Highway Hawk risers. They fit perfectly on the 950 (and my back like it much better than the OEM bar). :)

John, you are right about Curacao!
I mostly look around at cruisercustomizing.com for stuff. If you take a look at the 'Cruiser or Tourer' thread there is a picture of the riser/dragbar on my 950!
