So has anybody ever spent some time and looked at the api ratings? If you look what out bikes need for oil, the api rating is all in the obsolete column. Now if you look at what most of the oil companies have the ratings are all way above what our bikes require for warranty api ratings. There fore you could use just about any oil out there as long as it doesn't say energy conserving.
Another thing is if you look at some of the diesel oil api it's ok to use in our bikes. Ya I was slow at work today did some surfin on the net.
This is all just food for thought don't take anything to heart. I would tell if I wanted to stir the kettle lol. :)

Oh hdeater, this is pot stirring for sure. I believe somewhere in the forum I have already read a thread on oil ratings, etc. That one got pretty dang heated. As I have mentioned before, why do you just go ahead and start a thread on darksiding too.

It is always good to shake things up, keeps us thinking.

I'm not too much on the dark side. I ride a motorcycle so I will stick with motorcycle tires. I use car tires on my car and sometimes to roll down hills at people who run cts on motorcycles lol.

But I'm sure we have to have some on here...the two things that get people riled up are discussions on oil and car tires. While we're at it, why don't we mention that all bikes should be running on high octane fuel.

Hey jarhead you must really be bored tring to stir up some shit here.So now that you mention fuel octane everybody should be running 91, thats leaves me more 87. lol Also car tires on motorcycles suck and api ratings are over rated. So is there anthing else I can add to get this pot a cookin?

I just switched to 20W50 this last oil change. I noticed that if i don't give the bike an extra few minutes to warm up the oil light comes on. I think this is due to changing oil filter brands. I think the new filter i'm trying requires a higher pressure to push the oil thru.

I think that 20W50 oil is over-rated by a bunch of wimpy 'i don't want to hurt my engine' panzies that are afraid to change thier own oil. I also know for a fact that synthetic oil is a scam. thier is NO difference between synthetic and the standard oil that we have been using for many years.:p:p:p

And so it shall.
There was one comment in one of the oil threads that said synthetic viscosity is not affected by cold temperatures. Yet synthetic has multi-grade ratings. Some of our self proclaimed oil experts are very entertaining. :D

At one time in the 80's or so API was challenged by the u-r-peeing standard (iso9001:2000) for being slow and outdated. API almost went down the tube:eek:
