I was interested in putting this spiked intake on my 2006 V-Star 650. http://i447.photobucket.com/albums/qq194/evildarkness13/intake1.jpg
But the mfg recommends using a jet kit along with the intake mod. Does anyone know what jet kit I need for this? I've only dealt with FI motorcycles before. This in my first one with a carb so I don't know much about jet kits.

See what the mfg recommends for a jet kit. I have used both Vance & Hines and dynojet kits.Very good kits with easy to follow instructions. This may help also http://www.650ccnd.com/mods/rejet.htm

What would the drawbacks be if I were to put this intake on and leave the carbs as is?

It will idle and run ok at low speeds but you will have no power on accell. It will bog out.
Not good to ride it that way because it will be too lean. You will have to fatten the carbs
up.

I know this thread is a couple of months old, but my son just put one of those on his Shadow A.C.E. about a week ago, and it's a pretty good piece for the price. It mounted up fine, and runs good after the re-jet too.
