How critical is it to check the valve clearance at the intervals stated in the manual?

The dealer ran the 600 mile check and all was well. I now have 4000 miles on the bike. All seems well, power good and no noises that I notice.

I sure hate to pay the dealer to do this again and also hate to think of doing it myself. What a pain.

Last year I had a Virago 250 and went to all that hassle at 4000 miles only to find out everything was good, no adjustment required.
