V-star 1100 custom has a start problem.... i think
can anyone tell me what's going on with my bike. is it just the starter. i bought it like this, but after adding a new battery it went away. now it's back.
sometimes if will do this over and over again. so i stop after maybe 4 tries, and then do it again. the other night it would not go.
I have the same problem with my 04, the dreaded starter clutch. right now I am going as long as I can before fixing it. mine has been doing it for 6 months. dont give it any gas or choke from the start. once it catches give it gas and engage choke if needed.
BTW...what is your idle set at? It sounds really low.... should be 950-1000 for proper oiling at idle.
So the battery checks out fine and doesn't lose any charge while in the bike? The reg/rec is like a voltage regulator. if it goes bad, you either over or under charge.
I'd remove the starter too. Look at the 2 long bolts holding it together to make sure they aren't twisted. If they are loosen them and twist everything back where it should be.
