Slow down with gears and stop with brakes.

Riding is not just what I do but who I am.

Got to drive a 2011 Volt to work today

using regenerative braking the car slows down to 3mph, not touching the brakes at all.

Its very much like riding a big engine motorcycle, you let off the throttle and it slows down surprisingly quickly.

30 mile round trip, no gas used. Has about a 45 mile range on battery at commuter speeds, then the gas engine spins up.

Remarkably quiet running from the battery, like the car is rolling downhill all the time with the engine off.

I could get use to this.

Just have to watch the rear view mirror, this early version does not turn on the brake light when its regen-braking - looks like the car has no brake lights.
