why 1 mirror law?

why do states only require 1 mirror on motorcycles?

I guess it's because a lot of people don't know how to adjust multiple mirrors to obtain a full panoramic rearward view anyway. They point all mirrors to the same spot directly behind them so any number greater than one is superfluous.

are cars required to have mirrors on both sides?

I remember when I bought my new 2000 saturn I had to pay extra for a passenger side mirror. I was towing a sailboat on a trailer then and wanted the 2nd mirror.

I would guess that most cars did not historically have mirrors on both sides, so why force them on motorcycles?

I know when my dad bought a car back in the 80's, only the driver side mirror was required, and the passenger was extra.
These days maryland requires both mirrors on all vehicles.

I dont really use my mirrors, I always just look back lol. My 68' Mustang didn't come with two mirrors
