Fram Filter

So I know a guy who knows a guy who said a Fram person told him their fiber caps that get all of the bad press are made of the same material as the filter, only a lot denser. The glue adheres to the fiber caps much better than it adheres to the metal caps, meaning much less chance of oil bypassing the filter. I was also told the XG filter has the metal caps. I don't know how much of this is true as I was hearing it 3rd hand but maybe someone can confirm. I took my filter off and cut it open. I had a hard time cutting the fiber cap off with a razor knife. Bypass valve opened around 4 lb of pressure.

Here's an interesting read on oil filter construction. Not sure if it's scientific or not but has observations.
