needle jet

does the needle go into and thru the needle jet,i had thought the needle went into the main jet, but the needle jet has them holes on the sides so if the needle was pulled upthru the needle jet the holes would get exposed allowing fuel to pass thru. i think the reason i'm confused is from looking at diagrams which show the needle lined up with the main jet

Needle sets in the main jet. If you think about it, all the jets are mounted parallel to the needle in the carb body. There is no way the needle itself could go through the holes in the pilot jet unless it was perpendicular to the needle.

not thru the holes thru the end,the needle is like a restriction and as its raised more of the side holes are exposed.
