top side ticking

I recently put a used engine on my 2006 1100 vstar classic. Engine is out of a 2006 1100 vstar classic with 20,000 miles. At first it seemed ok but after couple days of riding it seems to tick in the front cylinder area once it's warmed up. I run Mobile 20w50 in it. Any thoughts?

I would check valve lash first.

I am no expert on the topic, but I have owned two 1100s and they both made a ticking sound…and neither needed a valve adjustment.

Probably best to have an experienced Yamaha mechanic listen to it and let you know. That engine has been around forever, and there is no shortage of guys who know exactly what they sound like when a valve adjustment is needed.
