Gears loud clunk

My new VStar 1300 tourer makes a pretty loud clunk when shifting gears.. Is this normal?

Just a tidbit here, don't know your noise, but will say that the faster(foot wise and speed wise) you shift seems to be more quiet and smoother Enjoy, and Ride Safe

How long has it been since your last oil change? Since the same oil lubricates the engine, clutch and transmission, shifting gets a little harder and louder as the oil gets older.

I always notice that my shifts are a lot smoother after an oil change.

+1 and also you said your 1300 was new? When my 1100 was new i thought it was cool that it made a loud solid 'clunk'. After a few thousand mile break in it got much quieter and smoother. Is your 1300 broken in yet?

Just do the scheduled maintanence and i'll bet it gets smoother & quieter by the time you hit 1500 miles. Keep the shiny side up

Guess I should have read more carefully. Yeah, Sparky's right on this one. It should smooth out after the break-in period.
