I admit it... my wife is smarter than me.

Okay, so my insurance-agent wife has been bugging me to let her 'shop' the bike insurance ever since I got it. I've been stupidly playing the "oh no, honey, I did that. Big smart me got the best rate already..." game.

DUH!

So I finally gave in and let her do it recently. Full coverage, lowest deductibles... $100 a year. Total. Holy crap! And may even go down a bit now that I took the BRC.

Gents, get your ego outta the way and shop it! My ego can smile and put a couple hundred bucks a year in my pocket while saying "yes dear, you were right..." So do it yourself, go to one of those multi-carrier websites, let your wife do it, whatever. Just don't assume your 'good neighbor' tied to one and only one carrier can give you the best rates. Don't just "go with the Flo" stick with "Professor Farmer" or get insurance from a lizard by default. Shop it to multiple carriers: Turns out all those TV commercials cost money, and guess who's actually paying for that? I never heard of the folks we went with, but when I looked 'em up, they're just as big, just as good, just not as ad-driven.

Here endeth the rant: Just got a few hundred reasons I think it's important.

Hell, if you're from PA, just PM me and my wife will do it for you for free.

I too shop around for coverage. And be it my bike or my cages, I have never found flo or the lizard cheaper than any other. Usually higher for me.

USAA is pretty hard to beat if you qualify. But other than that, I've found nothing that can't/shouldn't be shopped.

I know I could save a buck but I've been with same insurer / agent for years. They've replaced a roof due to hail damage and never batted an eye at the two autos my wife totaled. I feel like my agent has been "on my side" so I'm going to stick with him. They've stuck by me when I think some insurers would not have.

I surely understand and respect being loyal to a favored partner or business. I still go pay the extra 30% at my local hardware store to avoid "big orange" just because it's my neighbor, they actually talk to me, know what they're talking about, etc. What's important to you is 'worth it.'

OTOH, If I'd been paying the $7K a year I used to pay 10 years ago instead of the ~$1,400 I've been paying since... I'd expect them to "not bat an eye" either: After 10 years, they'd have something like 56,000 reasons to "stick by me".

Haha, I don't think I pay THAT much of a premium over the cheapest rate but I know I pay more. I'm good with it. I do buy my life insurance elsewhere because it's substancially cheaper. My agent knows and doesn't hassle me about it.

LOL. Yeah, it's like my hardware store thing. I prefer to shop there when I can even knowing I'm paying extra. But I do head for the big HD when I need certain things like a jug of Simple Green that are WAY less expensive, or that the local outfit doesn't have...

Casey, I sent you a PM. Who did you go with on your insurance. Augie

EDIT: BTW My wife is smarter than I am. She lets me know that at every opportunity.

I'm always working very diligently to discover the obvious.
