Is it me or are these mirrors to short?
I am not a tall guy by any means, 5'-9" but when I sit in the saddle, all I see are my hands and handlebars.
I have added a small fisheye just to help me out, but I wanted to ask if anyone else is having this issue or if anyone has talked to the Yamaha about it?
I am looking into extending mine because I want to have better visibility out of them.
I think most owners of these bikes will agree that the mirror design is a bit flawed. No matter your height, it seems that if the bars are in a good position for you, your hands interfere more than they should with your rear view. I'm okay with mine at this point, but it could be better, for sure.
The mirrors are a weak link in the design of the Star Venture/Eluder I found I have to really adjust them inward to get a good view of what is behind, there is a blind spot no matter how you adjust the mirrors, if you adjust them outward to try and help with the blind spot you lose the ability to see clearly traffic behind you.
Don't be afraid to really adjust the mirror inward more than you think you need. I found that helped a lot with rearward view, the blind spot you will just have to deal with and know that it is always going to be there.
I have thought about buying two small spot mirrors to stick onto the two black plastic pieces that are screwed to the fairing under the mirrors to help protect in case of a total tip over, their looks to be enough flat surface room on those pieces to fit a small spot mirror without using any of the actual mirror surface.
I can't get my crappy Apple phone to upload the photo of the piece I am talking about onto my computer.
Update: the photo finally uploaded so I am adding it to show the piece where I think a spot mirror could be placed for blind spot detection and still be out of the way not taking up any room on the actual mirrors themselves.
That's okay, I think I know what side mirrors your talking about, I looked at some too but they were too large to fit and do what I needed them to do, so I went with a 1" sized fisheye in the lower outer edge of my mirror, it took a little bit to get used to it but it has made a bit of a difference, I can now at least see something next to me.
I am working on a new bracket that will raise the existing mirrors up about an inch to an inch and a half, need to play with it to get the height right.
When I get it done it will be an exact look to the existing bracket, aluminum, and black, I really do not want to put aftermarket mirrors on the bike and nothing out there looks like the stock mirror.
If your adapter comes out looking OEM and is good quality you may very well have a market. I’m sure there are a number of people who would be interested.
