Oem parts

So had a meeting with a deer the other night long story short only real damage seems to be to front fender and the tire. The tire got some small Maybe 1/16 of an inch new tread grooves cut in it when the fender got pushed into it. Removed the fender today took a test drive everything else seems fine so my question is will I do any harm bybriding without the front fender until I can get a new one. Thanks

Glad you are OK and what sounds like no major damage. Other than tire picking up road debris and throwing it up no harm. Lots of people take the front fender off when they make their bike into a bobber.

Ya, it's just going be throwing rocks and water up into the headlight and at the underside of the gastank, maybe even the front of the gastank, depending.

Thanks for the info guys anybody know a good source of aftermarket oem parts. I know I could possibly have the original repaired but kinda Look in at cost don't wanna use my insurance and the deer was obviously uninsured and left the scene lol

Are you talking about the fender support circled in picture? I've read that the weight of the fender needs support not to crack the supports at the forks due to normal road vibration. I can't find where I read it, maybe someone else will chime in.

my default answer is: the engineers at Yamaha put those on the fender because it was necessary. Of all the things that you dont want to happen on a motorcycle, the fender coming off the front wheel and getting thrown in front of it is near the top of the list.

You are right about finding used parts. Vstar bikes are incredibly reliable, you can expect the engine to last 100k miles without splitting the engine case open, but some people do manage to run them out of oil, or never adjust the valves and eat one... so there are bikes being parted out all the time.

Fenders get bent and mangled, check a website like bikebandit.com and you should be able to see what an OEM replacement will cost - that can be your worse case baseline if you shop around for used parts.

In 2012 they were missing. If you search on 2012 onward, Yamaha left them off as well as the tank to frame chrome pieces.
