I'm a member of the local Shriners and also part of their motorcycle club. We participate in many regional parades and 'm concerned about the danger of the bike overheating while parading in summer months. The parades are usually less than 2 miles in length but involve a lot of stopping, idling an proceeding at very slow speeds.

I've had the bike serviced and the oil changed about a month ago.

Any suggestions or experiences in this regard?

I would just use a full synthetic 20w50 like Mobil 1 and you will be fine.
