VStar 1100 starter clutch damper bearings

2003 VStar 1100 Classic, starter clutch went bad, now replacing. The starter clutch damper in the replacement kit has bearings for either end of the shaft, which shaft ends are considerably smaller in diameter than those of the original, which used no bearings. The new bearings need to be pressed into the respective housings. Anyone here have experience pressing them in, is a special tool required? I don't want to screw this up. Thanks for your help.
