Blinking engine light

But only while the bike is in accessory power, have not checked it while running. Should this light be blinking?

Bike is a 2000 Vstar 650 classic. Hasn't been started in over a year.

Started bike today, only runs with choke pulled, cuts out upon almost any throttle. I suppose I'll keep this as my diagnosis journal, if anyone wishes to chime in, that'd be great.

I think you have it sit idle long enough for the carbs to gum up. Clean the carbs and it will run again. Ethanol is not your friend.

A blinking engine light, I believe, indicates there is a problem with the throttle position sensor (the only input besides engine speed). Need to check the resistance of the sensor by disconnecting the three wire plug going into the ignitor unit. As far as I know the TPS is the only think that will make the light blink on that year model bike.
