Backfire on ignition?

The bike is running good,but occasionally when I hop on and go to fire it up it backfires. Is this from using the choke unnecessarily? Or something else perhaps?

Make sure you close the choke after the bike is warmed up, and turn off the fuel after you are done riding for the day. My bike did that last week and the problem has since been alleviated.

It's usually only after its been sitting for an hour or two. But if it's been an hr or so I always use the choke to start. I'll try not using it and also shutting the fuel off (I'm sure I'll forget to turn it on about a mile down the road lol)

If you need choke to start thats fine, just don't leave it on haha!
And as for keeping the fuel off, I don't think you would be going anywhere with it off :P

These are just suggestions as I am not a pro by any means, this was just the solution for my '00 650.

I would wait for one pf the big guns on the forum to come help you out.

I ride mine a LOT, so I rarely shut the fuel off. So when I do, I always forget! Lol

I have been having similar issues on my 2000 vstar classic.
It has NOT done this since I got it 6 months ago.

It seems to have started when I put Berrymans chemtool B12 in the tank. Not sure if the chemicals are the cause or because it may
be a bit too much in there.

I run regular gas in the bike, Choke on or off petcock on or off it still
does this sometimes but not all. Cold starting almost always.

After warm up you can shut it off and will crank right back up no problem.

Bike runs great no driving issues at all. I looked at the plugs and each is light pink in color. Still a baffling issue to figure out.
