Spark plug fitment trouble

So while I was installing V&H cruzers to my bike and changing the brake pads I decided i might as well change the sparkplugs too. So I got the ngk iridiums that are said too fit my bike (2003 vstar classic). The plugs fit and the bike starts up great, BUT, the caps don't fit on top of my new spark plugs at all, they just kinda sit there. Should I ram them on and MAKE them fit or has anyone else had this issue? I read the iridium plugs are better but the tops are larger than stock.

The small metal caps on top of the spark plugs screw off. Just take a small pliers and unscrew the metal caps to expose the threads. Is that what you are referring to?
