Speedo problems

Not sure if this is the right section for this but this seems close. I have a 2003 V Star 1100 Classic with a speedometer that will shut off with no known cause. Turn signal indicator work along with high beam and low beam. If it sits for a little while(a week or 2) it sometimes come back on then after ridding a while will shut back off. Also seen it jump to opposite side and back to the pin backwards. This has been going on for about 2 years. Checked the connector under the seat and seem to be some corrosion in there that I cleaned out. No change. Checked the back of the speedo and there was some corrosion on some of the wires and screws that connect in the back. Cleaned it. No immediate change but would jump back on for week a day after I cleaned that then off again. Checked the speed sensor which looked dirty so I wiped it down checked the mid shaft nut that seemed to not be loose and then put the sensor back on. Did not work immediately but did come on again and lasted for a couple of days then stopped working again. Comes and go while I am riding with no apparent cause. Wiggled the wires around while checking the odometer (which also cuts out with the speedo) and didn't seem like anything was loose. Looking into buying a used speedo with similar miles but not sure if this is the route cause. I did searches on the website but none seem to match my conditions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure the clearance between the sensor and trigger wheel is set correctly. Check the nut on the midshaft. You may also want to do a voltage test as a precaution.
