Harley Davidson Owners Saying They Will Boycott Harley Davidson

Looks like the people in charge of Harley Davidson have miscalculated badly and thought that their core customers would never turn on them, but Harley Davidson owners are now talking boycotting Harley Davidson for moving production overseas and closing an American factory to do it.

It is one thing to add a factory but when companies like Harley Davidson start closing American factories and opening new factories overseas, well that does not show much commitment to the very core customer that saved Harley Davidson and kept them going. Oh well, I don't see a lot of people jumping off the very high quality and well designed sport bikes made by the likes of Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Triumph, Ducati and others who have been in the market since the start.

Harley Davidson ranks in the bottom five for reliability and it is highly doubtful that a Harley Davidson sport bike will measure up performance wise or quality wise to the big four, Yamaha, Honda Suzuki and Kawasaki.

But when your own customer base says they are ready to boycott you, just wow.

what US factory are they closing? they announced a while back they were consolidating some production from one state to another. is this what you're referring to?
Harley owners never seemed to mind before that many of their parts were made outside the US. i doubt they will see any significant change in owner base or customers actually leaving.

True Harley is in the Bottom five but is number one, yep numeral uno in customer loyalty. The guys who said they were going to boycott Harley couldn't afford to buy a new one anyway. Harley customers have been unhappy with Harley for years and still return. Harley has had overseas factories for years. This is more silly news headlines to sell news.

Harley still is an American Company and there will be no boycott.

The Kansas City, MO plant they closed a couple of months ago and moved about half the jobs to the east coast. That is probably what the article is talking about.

Harley Davidson is closing their Kansas City factory.

Harley Davidson has been steadily losing market share for a while now, Polaris' Indian brand is one reason, also Harley Davidson is having a very hard time enticing new customers because the younger generation is not tied to the Harley Davidson mystic, Willie G. Davidson sold a pirate image for a long time and when the Reagan tariffs were enacted against the Japan (sad I had to edit to use the word Japan, this political correctness garbage is killing America) brands Harley Davidson was able to survive and even had a backlog of orders driving up the price of their motorcycles due to waiting lists of over a year to get a new Harley Davidson.

Those days are all long gone and Harley while still selling more big displacement motorcycles than the other brands some of those other brands far out sell Harley Davidson overall when lower displacement motorcycles are included in the sales.

Harley Davidson was able to ride their one trick pony for a long time but those days are over. Evidence of that is Harley Davidson trying to enter into the adventure market and the sport bike market. While Harley Davidson's current customers may have accepted the poor quality and unreliability they are not going to get away with that trying to draw customers away from the likes of Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki and Kawasaki.

Even Polaris with Indian has better quality than Harley Davidson.

The said they're moving some production overseas to offset the retaliatory tariffs the EU imposed by after they were tariffed by you know who. America first.

it's difficult to ascertain when Harley made which decision and for what specific purposes, but they did announce last year they were adding a plant in Thailand, not moving anything away from the U.S., to improve their footprint in the Asian markets. in January this year, Harley announced they were moving production from Kansas City to Pennsylvania. it said nothing publicly at the time about moving more production overseas.

how low displacement? Harley still holds over a 50% market share of all US bikes over 600cc.

HD has learned a little from their past mistakes and over a year ago started to pay more attention to and market the Sportster line knowing full well that there are a lot of millenials interested in the HD legacy but want something with a sportier slant than the usual Big Twin land barges. To a certain extent rallies like Born Free in Cali, companies like Biltwell and TC Bros who market chopper/bobber parts towards the young Lumbersexuals and all related videos on YouTube have something to do with the new genre of 'PC outlaws' and 'jolly pirates'. This past week while on the road from Kentucky to Colorado and back the majority of the younger generation motorcyclists I saw who seemed to actually be touring were on Sportsters... and the overwhelming majority of motorcycles on the road were HD baggers. HD has also attempted to lure the younger generation with their Street lineup featuring the Revolution X motor and by next year will offer a new line of motorcycles running a modern and modular powerplant in the Pan America, Streetfighter and Custom models.

Is it too little too late? I doubt it. The HD name still has too much cred and mystique associated with it on a global level.

Trump said he is putting tarrifs on other countries to support US businesses, who have to compete "unfairly" in the global market.

Now trump is saying he supports BOYCOTTING Harley Davidson to punish them, for responding the the trade war trump started.

The tariffs are nothing but a buyers tax on foreign goods sold in the US. Trump gave his wealthy consitutants a trillion dollar tax break, and now he NEEDS that trillion dollars to come from someone else: YOU!

But back to HD, he said he was creating the trade war to help companies like HD, and now trump is stabbing them in the face! How dare a company like HD not play along with trumps trade war, so he can continue to collect those tariffs?

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump backed boycotting American motorcycle manufacturer Harley Davidson Inc on Sunday, the latest salvo in a dispute between the company and Trump over tariffs on steel.

The Wisconsin-based motorcycle manufacturer announced a plan earlier this year to move production of motorcycles for the European Union from the United States to its overseas facilities to avoid the tariffs imposed by the trading bloc in retaliation for Trump's duties on steel and aluminum imports.

In response, Trump has criticized Harley Davidson, calling for higher, targeted taxes and threatening to lure foreign producers to the United States to increase competition.

It will be interesting to see if Harley can tap into the sport adventure market. That group is as anti harley as you can get.

Indian is going to announce 3 bikes in about 3 weeks that are not in the cruiser category and itís not the FTR 1200 the announced for next year. These will be street bikes in the 750 cc range and will be availible later this year. So Indian is already moving in this direction and have the younger riders attention.
