According to Bad Comedian Eli Manning HD stands for "Huge Disappointment". As far as H-D goes, though, I believe it still stands for Harley Davidson. Sorry, but any manufacturer could be hand picked to be bashed ad nauseum (such as the DirecTV commercials do to cable).

I would have to say my experience was the opposite... $800 in parts for a starter clutch on a V-Star1100 vs $68+tax for the H-D part.

2007 V Star 1100 Classic. Vance and Hines, 21" spoke, white walls + other stuff.

2010 HD FLHCTU Electra Glide Ultra CLassic. Freedom Performance true dual exhaust + power commander.

Have to agree with the post above for another reason. I find HD brand aftermarket products priced just as well and better then non HD after market stuff. Even at the dealer.

Ex. Replaced my stock HD taillight with an HD brand LED. Price was the around the same and lower then some after market products and the light is a quality DOT approved LED taillight.
I can convert if I wanted my standard rear brake and turn signals to HD brand plug and play run, turn and brake lights, again DOT approved at no more cost then aftermarket non DOT stuff. Im so happy with the bike though, I find myself not doing to much of anything to it, almost (but not quite) boring! *L* Then again, I feel at the price I paid I shouldnt have too and feel I got my moneys worth.

BTW - over 8000 miles now on my 14 RK and hasnt needed any warranty work. I will someday bring it in to see if any recall work is needed such as saddle bags fasteners on some models etc. Also my front spark plug wire got a little chaffed rubbing against the frame. But thats it. Truly am torn if I should get an extended warranty, never did an extended warranty in my life but even I am jaded by forums, wondering if it will be as reliable as my vstar 1300. I can get an extended 4 years for less then a $1000 with no deductibles.
