I dont know about melting the saddle bags
but if you have a windshield or fairing you do have to worry about dumping the exhaust into the backdraft space of the windshield

then it will be like driving a van with the back doors open all the time...

I've driven a Wrangler with the back window out for 12 years and still standing. No threat from a totally open air motorcycle

you won't hurt oem silverado bags unless the exhaust was blasting directly at it , they are real leather not vinyl or naugahyde, they can take a lot of heat
