On both of my R*s are short wires that I use to pull the latch open without using the key. One I got from some guy that was making them, the other I just figured out a way to attach the wire. Works every time. If it does get stiff, I just wiggle the front of the seat up and down a few times.

Once I actually got mine off, I sprayed WD 40 on it and used a long Allen wrench to keep working the latch from lock to open and now mine is simple and easy as turning the key
