Weird Noise???

Facts:

1999 Road Star Silverado picked up last month used w/ 7,000 miles.

I've put 900 miles on her since and am getting a weird "chirping" or "loose ???" from the front:

Forks?
Breaks?
Cables?
Bearings?
Shocks?

I'm getting this noise at speed when accelerating and it's making me nuts. I cannot seem to see anything loose and am wondering if it could be inside the forks?

I've heard of steering bearing issues on the R*'s and realize that for a 14 year old bike she averaged 500 miles a year and sat for the rest of the time...

clueless in VA.

I had the same noise on my '99 Roadie. Sounded like it was coming from the front. When I changed transfer case oil and tightened up my drive belt it went away.

Ive been ridin a 99 R* for 12 yrs the chirp usually comes from the drive belt. espically when you throttle it up or back off the throttle. Dont think its anything to worry about. I just adjusted the belt and mine went away.

I have the same noise coming from my bike. I was advised that it meant my belt needed to be adjusted and that should fix it.

Is it a pinging sound? Metal on metal?

Yep, it sure is FJ. I swear it's a loose washer or ??? I've checked and re-checked everything I can think of and yet still can't find a cause. I'm waiting on my belt tension tool due in this week to check my belt for proper tension but it does not sound like a loose belt kind of noise, more of a metalic rattle.

Have you tried riding without a windshield? The shield reflects sound at you can can make sounds from the engine or rear of the bike seem to be coming from the forks.

Not until you mentioned it, but I'll try it soonest.

Thanks for the tip.

I have that too. It's from the other key on my ring bouncing around on the tank. Sort of sounds like dropping BB's on a tin roof.

A couple of things rattled on my ride - the headlight and tank. To fix the headlight take off the front, put electrical tape on the lip and refit. To fix the tank I used 2 rubbers off tap washers, one each end between the frame and the mounts.
Hope this helps.
