Headlight Short???

I have a 2007 Road Star Silverado and I keep popping the headlight fuse? The bike will be fine with all the lights and then when I start it, it blows the fuse? Any help? Thanks

Fuse

Are you using a 15 amp fuse? I think that is the value. If you have passing lamps and they are hooked to the headlight circuite you may need to go to a 20 amp fuse. Maybe take the bulb out and see if it still blows. If it does look for a short, grounded or pinched wire. If anything has been added disconnect it for a test. If you have passing lamps turn them off.

A guess as to why it does not blow untill you start bike would be the voltage goes up when the bike starts.
If you touch the bulb clean it with alcohol.

Got an 08 Roadstar Silverado S. Just had my shop fix a similar problem. When I ran the spots the fuse would blow headlight and spots fuse which was a 20. Apparently inside the headlight some of the wiring had melted and would throw the fuse when the spots were on for a while. They re-did the wire and put some insulation in. So far so good.
