My 1300 makes a noise similar noise to cicadas. But as near as I can tell, it is the sound of the hole-filled rotors passing through the brake pads. If you have a wind shield, it can re-direct sound and make noises sound like they are coming from the handlebars. I once thought I had a rod knocking, but it was a certain exhaust note that was bouncing off of my windshield.

Funny, I have a Piaggio that makes that exact noise for seemingly the same reason. But not my V*.

I have loud pipes, HK 3" straights, and I can hear that same buzz. I didnt notice it till I put new breaks on it. I have only had my Roadie for a few months.

Hmm, learn something new every day. Looks like floating rotors can click and it's pretty normal. The drawing that I'm looking at shows the '06 Silverado has floating rotors. Probably just the rivets clicking. As long as the rotor and rivets are in good shape, there's nothing to worry about.

It also looks like you may, if you're really worried, check the rotor pistons for freedom of movement. If one side isn't free the rotor can get pushed to one side also causing clicking.

Disclaimer: this is not personal experience. It's just googling and may or may not be accurate.

I have a 2012 Road Star Silverado and I have that noise also coming from the front end when I brake, but not always. I also have this rattle that I think is coming from the headlight. Good to hear others are having the same noise.

I just bought a V-Star 950T and I've noticed a buzzing sound when I apply the front brake and I'm wondering if it's this same issue. I'd never heard of floating rotors before today, but sure enough, the rotors on my bike are two pieces. The one thing that makes me still not sure is that the buzzing only seems to happen when I apply the brake at a speed of more than about 5 mph and it doesn't always go away completely when I release the brake. It'll get significantly quieter, but not go away completely right away sometimes. Can anyone here verify any of this behavior is the same as what you're experiencing?
