My Speedometer won’t work

I just purchased an 07 Yamaha Vstar 1100 didn’t really notice it in the test ride because it was cold and I didn’t go far but after getting it home and riding it a few times I’ve noticed that The speedometer wasn’t working any suggestions on what it could be guys thanks in advance

speed sensor under the left rear shaft cover, it's right where the driveshaft enters the engine, remove the big chrome fake tranny cover to see it, the bolt holding the universal on could be lose, pry on the universal to see, big issue on 1100's with that universal

dumb bikers don't get to be old bikers

Pauli466 is correct. The sensor picks up signal from ring on shaft. Sometimes it will get loose or debris on sensor face. Take it loose and wipe off. Here is a test for speed sensor. Keep us posted.
