Most aftermarket Tachs are made for dual fire ignition systems a.k.a Harley. This means the plugs fire both on the ignition and exhaust cycle. Our bikes use a more modern single fire system. Most of the tachs will not work unless you use a Tach adapter. Without a tach adapter, your tach will read approximately 1/2 of the engine RPM. The Barons Tach adapters are known not to work very well and have jumpy needles. I know this from experience as well.

Cobra makes a single fire tach but it is pricey. The Wiki page you referenced does have a link to making your own tach adapter and it works fine.

When I had my 950, I bought a Drag Specialties Tach https://www.denniskirk.com/drag-spec...prd/407394.sku

And made my own tach adapter and it worked great!
