How loose should the oil pump chain be?

So my oil pump chain seemed to me to be pretty darn loose. is that normal? The mechanic I was working with encouraged me to get a new oil pump and change the whole assembly. Any one ever run into this when you changed you starter clutch?

So I found some more information on the Internets, they purposefully made them with slack in them. What were they thinking? Scared the crud out of me.

Ive never messed with the oil pump so I did not reply. Usually if your bike has less than 30k miles on it you dont have to worry about things being worn out.

I had read the cam chain tensioner needs to be "looked at" around 30,000 miles, but when my bike rolled over 30k I could not find any info to support that claim.
