Starter button/kill switch assembly replacement advice

For some time, I have tried with no success to repair the starter button on my 03 Vstacr XVS1100. I found a replacement unit on eBay for $40 which seemed reasonable. I'm looking for advice as to what NOT to do. Don't want to incur any extra repairs that might have to be done.
Thanks!

Why are you changing switch? Might not be a switch problem. Post the issues you are having.

Starter button/kill switch assembly

I have been trying to repair the starter button for some time. At first, I was getting no "recoil" when I attempted to start the bike. I also attempted cleaning the contacts thinking that may be the issue. I previously owned a Honda ACE 750 which had this issue and it worked. To me, this is the simplest solution.

I assume that by "recoil" you mean starter doesn't turn. Remember that the clutch which on handlebar, neutral safety switch and kick stand switch are on the circuit. If any of these fail, loose connection or wiring issue will cause the starter not to energize. Have you load tested battery? 12.45 volts or greater? Checked battery ground at frame? Using volt meter on battery does it show voltage drop when trying to start? When trying to start what is voltage at starter.
Does starter switch have power going to it, power coming out when depressed? Check continuity at switch with wires unattached. Just a few things to test to help eliminate items it could be. Post results so we can help diagnose. Good luck.

Forgot to mention starter relay. Good tight connection? Any corrosion? Power in from battery? Power out with starter button punched.
