1100 shift question

I have a 2005 1100 Silverado i recently purchased, with 12,800 miles on the ODO. I have put about 900 miles on it since. Great bike. The only glitch is that once in a while, when I come to a stop, the bike will refuse to downshift, if I haven't done it while still rolling. When I got the bike, it really didn't shift as well as i thought it should, so with a manual, I adjusted the shift linkage to be right on the money. That made a huge improvement. I had a similar problem on my EVO Harley, and took the top of the tranny off thinking I needed to adjust the shifter pawls, or had a bad spring, but it turned out to just be one of the heim joints in the linkage had started to tie up after many years, and miles. Replaced it and problem solved. Everything seems fine with the linkage on the Star, so I am wondering if this is a problem known to others, and if it can possibly be in the outer part of the pawl mechanism under the cover on the tranny. Right now it is just an irritation that I will live with if it entails any major repair, especially inside the tranny. I am just looking for knowledge, or experience with this problem. Shifting

This is not conjecture or opinion, this is gospel fact, the way Sugar Bear handles that (yes it happens a lot) is he uses the clutch lever, if it won't go in gear easy, let out the clutch, then back in,and then try, that's what works for me. I do not believe it is a repair type issue, it is learning your bike. Try it next time.

Down shifting

Pomike,

As Sugarbear said. You do not have a problem. Once stopped motorcycles are hard to down shift. I believe the gears are flat ground on the top.

If you get stuck you can walk it down by slipping the clutch lightly and applying a little pressure to the shift lever. I believe there is a paragraph in the owners manual suggesting speed to down shift.
