New Rider Question

Hello. I bought a 2007 VStar 650 Classic for my first bike. It did not come with the owner's manual but one has been ordered. In the meantime, could you nice folks/members here in SOCAL tell me what gas octane rating is recommended for this bike? 87? 89? 91? Thank you all.

87 Octane not enough compression to require higher octane.

Regular gas

Noob650,

Congratulation on the new bike. As Fulltilt said 87 octane is recomended. I have seen some indications that regular is actually better for the bike. But, of course I have heard of a dealer that suggests premium. So there will always be some debate.

You can read or print an owners manual at Starmotorcycles.com.

Sugar Bear can't tell you with authority what you need, or required. He will say this, he has run 87 to 93 octane and could tell not a shread of difference on his 1100, whatever that may be worth. Don't mean nothin, just something to ponderRide Safe.

My manual definitely says 87, but yesterday I found a sticker on the frame of the bike which says 91.

That 91 sticker is figured differently. 87 here in the USA is 91 Worldwide. Thats why if you look at the gas pump when it says 87 there is a sort of disclaimer saying how it was figured. I think the acronyms are ROZ and RON.
