First Bike: Can anyone tell me about the Yamaha V Star 650 Silverado?
Hello, I am looking at getting a 2002 Yamaha V Star 650 Silverado for my first bike. My wife and I really want Harleys, but have decided that we should each get something in the $3000-$4000 range to start off on and use while we are saving up for our dream Harleys. It has been easy picking a bike for her. She wants a cruiser style in that price range, which with some reviews and opinions, I am pretty much left with going with the Honda Rebel for her.
I, on the other hand, am a bit more challenging. I am 5'9 260 lbs. I look like a gorilla riding a football when I am on a Rebel or a Sportster, not to mention the suspension on both of those bottom out as soon as I sit on them. So, I can either wait and save up for a Fat Boy, Fat Bob, or Road King, or find something to start out on. I have been researching larger size bikes in my price range and have found that the 2002 Yamaha V Star 650 Silverado fits my needs and budget. The bad news is, I know nothing about the bike. I have heard mostly good things, except for the brakes, seat, and maximum highway performance. We don't plan on doing a lot of highway/interstate driving in the beginning so I am not too concerned with that, as far as the seat, I figure I can always get a nice Corbin somewhere down the line if it becomes a problem, but I am very concerned about the brakes. The rear brake is a drum set-up. Does anyone make a conversion kit for this bike? Any information on this bike at all would be greatly appreciated.
