Chopper

Hi guys and gals,

I'm new to this site and I just bought myself a 2009 vstar 1100. I want to customize it but without blowing a lot of doe. The main thing I would like to do is give the bike a chopper look but without buying a whole new front end or one of those chopper kits. The attached pic is an example of the exact bike I want to build. Any and all info would be very helpful.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
You got a great piece of hardware that will (with proper maintenance) last for years and years.

Custom choppers are one thing, chopping one half ass is another.
Save your (doe) dough as you spell.
Enjoy the ride for a long time to come.

You want a total bare bones look. Looks like you want to go the "bobber" route

The term means to reduce or shorten. It's considered an early form of customizing

Strip your bike down to the bare essentials necessary to ride. This is at no cost to you, you just have to do the work.

Your biggest cost will be locating one of the 40-50's style seats, kinda like an old time bicycle seat to fit your bike.

Bars will be whatever style you're happy with from ape hangers to beach to drag. Your call on this.

Just think , as you take stuff off, you can try and re-sell it here to re-coup any outlying expenses as you mod out your bike.

V-Twin mag has some good examples. Customizing is like tattoo's, the more you get the more you want$$$$$.

Bobber

Bruceanddixie is right! I am in the process of "bobbing" a vstar 1100 and it is totally addictive! started out as just solo seat, ape hangers, internal wiring and clean up the rear fender before paint. Now I'm thinking all the way bobber with minimal rear fender and no front fender and a few other custom mods to the tank etc. Be careful! It's a slippery slope! and good luck with the project....

Well, just my two cents, but I actually bought this model bike because I found a kit at bluecollarbobbers.com to turn into a bobber. I love the look of a bobber too but once I set my eyes on my bike I couldn't think of changing it. I have talked to the folks over at blue collar and they are great people who will help if that's the way you want to go, but I'm set with my 1100 Classic the way it is!

Gee and I went the other way, adding 4" forward controls, removable sissy bar with luggage rack, and saddlebags.
