Unhappy Headed Back To The Dealership

Bought a leftover (new, 1 mile on the odometer) '09 V Star 1100 Custom a few weeks ago. Currently only 250 miles on it as my Concours 14 is my primary ride. The V Star spits and sputters pretty bad on start up. Once the motorcycle warms up it's not as bad, but it's still there at times. Surging is very noticeable. Return to idle when the clutch is engaged or when the engine is reved takes several seconds. I've come to a stop for signals or signs and had the motorcycle idle much higher than normal. I'm not very mechanically inclined and don't know a whole lot about these things, just that it's not normal based upon my previous ownership experience of an 1100 Custom. Carb settings too lean from the factory, choke cable requiring adjustment, or...? Back to the dealership we go to find out.

maybe bad gas and dirty carb from being an 09 with one mile? i had a 2002 650 custom and if it sat too long, due to me riding my bigger bike, it didn't take much for it to run very poorly, on one occassion i did have to haul it back to the dealer for them to clean the carb, then it ran fine, until it sat again, so i finally sold it even though i loved it and didn't want to give it up. just couldn't ride two bikes in a short northern riding season. hopefully your bike is still under dealer warranty.

You should have held onto it and just put Stabil in each tank full. That's what I do. This way if it has to sit it won't gum up. I've had gas in my boat for up to 2 years on the hard and turn the key and it started right up. Happened twice due to a bad back and a divorce. Stabil is a wonderful thing. lol
