clutch lever problem

hello,

i hope y'all are having an awesome holiday season! so today, i tried starting the bike and it didn't start. so i tried charging it, but the battery was completely dead. so i bought a new one. problem solved.

when i pull the clutch lever to go to first, it stalls on me. i start the bike at first gear and it starts, but it goes forward. it's like the clutch lever isn't doing anything. i don't even have to pull the clutch lever to go to 2nd... when i pull the clutch lever, the clutch doesn't seem to disengage at all. i looked at the cable and it pulls on the cable properly moving the end of the cable like it should. so what could be the problem?

help!

thanks!

sounds like either your clutch is not adjusted correctly. or the plates are sticking, with the engine off in gear pull in the clutch lever and try rocking the bike to unstickum. merry christmas. also warm up the bike

hey,

thanks for the feedback! i haven't been riding my bike a lot due to work and it's never done this before. i tried your trick by letting the bike run for a few mins then shutting it off, trying to unstick the plates. it still does the same thing jerks forward when getting into gear... like it's not disengaging at all...

If it's plate sticking, you may want to change the oil and change what oil you're putting in it. What do you have in it now and how long has it been hanging around? There are many brilliant people on this site willing to toss an opinion around about oil so I'm not going to stand in their way.

nick57 is right about unsticking the clutch. That's the safest way I know.

If it just won't unstick, you may just have to open it up and see what's going on.

i had the oil changed by the dealer about 4 months ago, do i don't know... i might have to do it myself this time. how would you know if the plates are unstuck? just start the engine and put it in gear i guess?

It did the same thing again! Stuck clutch! This time, it was easier to get unstuck. I guess it needs an oil change?

It probably will stick a few times more considering how stuck it was. If it doesn't improve you should inspect the clutch as it may be overly worn, basket nut could have come loose, clutch maladjusted, etc.

How many miles do you have on this clutch? Drive in town a lot (shifting and takeoffs increase wear rate)?
