1100 starter clutch

Folks, reading that the 1100 starter clutch is a super bitch to replace(to do right) compared to other bikes. Seems the ol boy talking says 40k would be normal to replace. Question here is, have any of you 1100 riders dealt with that? I have not, and have in excess of 40k on my 1100. I am wondering about being a few hunnerd miles from home and she lays down and dies
Be nice to hear if true, not true, or what the case is?
Thanks for any knowledge on this subject. Sorry if it has been covered (I missed it)

dont think mileage is an issue its how the bike has been started.is the tps in spec or has the owner been giving it throttle on startup.i know that now when i start my bike i firmly press the start button and dont let go until it starts.i also have a tach and keep the idle at 1000 rpms

I had to have mine replaced with about 12,000 on it. As I recall the dealer charged me a bit over $700. It sure sucks to push start without a hill near by.

Mine was replaced around 16,000 miles, about 1k after i took ownership...take it for what its worth though - i have no idea of the previous owners starting technique.
