Just a QUICK Post. My 09 V-Star 950 got a stripped oil pan after the dealer over tightened the oil pan bolt on the 1st oil change at 650 miles from the previous owner I got the bike from at 730 miles.
When I did the 2nd oil change at 3,200, the damage was already done.
Some basic Info:
The mechanic said he didn't think my bike was repaired with a heli coil? He thought the curly metal that came out might have been the threads that were stripped out? I tossed it, so no way to KNOW for sure.
Oil Pan Repair:
Anyway, HE used a Heli-Coil to repair the stripped oil pan
. I told him to use a time sert, but he said he'd use whatever he had back there, and never had one come back and he's been at the same location 7 years.
I think he said he used GREEN Loc Tite and let it sit 24 hours after drilling the pan out. I wished he used a time sert, BUT, I have a record of it and I told him if there is an issue again with his FIX, it is on HIM and THE DEALER to fix it. As long as it is a permanent fix, it's OK.
Also gave him 5 quarts of Mobil 1 synthetic oil for V-Twins. He threw out my other oil, didn't want to take any chances even though it had 30 miles on it. So he changed the oil and I already had the New filter on there. he gave me back 1/2 a bottle of oil.
Wolo Bad Boy Air Horn
I gave him the Universal Mounting kit with the relay and everything all ready to go, BUT, he didn't need to use it. I also asked if he used a relay and he said he did NOT
I am not sure if he meant the one in the EXTRA kit I bought, or any relay at all. I assume none at all. I need to look in the box I gave him to see if it is in there. The Wolo stock Bad Boy DOES come with a relay, right?
he did a good job and painted the strap metal I gave him black and it is basically in the stock location and looks clean.
I said, you are supposed to use a relay. He said I am already running less voltage because of all the LED lights I have and that for a SINGLE horn, it was NOT necessary, and everything would be fine. I told him if the horn breaks or messes up any electronics
, he is fixing it.
Does NOT using a relay make the HORN quieter? Or, is it simply to protect the electronics? Is the WORST that can happen is it FRY my HORN SWITCH???? Or can it mess up other stuff to?
Custom Dynamics Triple Play Brake Kit:
This was the 2nd most important thing to do because I could NOT find these damn wires. Works great and added the voltage regulator too to slow the signal down. He made a tray in the battery compartment for the Triple Play Controller so I could use any of the 10 patterns it has. I haven't looked at his work yet as I had to drive the bike home, leave my car there, have my wife drive me back up there to drop me back off to pick up my car.
Clevver Clutch replacement:
Works well and in the 14 miles I drove home, it definitely is in the sweet spot and friction zone way more! I like it.
So, that is it. It ended up costing $476 with shop supplies, etc. I should have done the Horn and Clevver myself, but it's done!
Mods on the NEAR NEAR Horizon:
UPS just dropped off a NEW set of tires. Michelin Commander II's. Wanted to ride the bike a bit, so I am getting a local place to install both for $85!
Dealer wanted like $140 (Like $79 for rear and $59 front). Can't wait for new Shoes on my Baby! I'm broke now and glad this is over with! Bike runs nice with the new oil. Probably in my head, but who cares.
