2002 1100 v-star classic - clutch and friction zone adjustments

I searched the forum looking for anything similar to my question and came up empty handed. Recently, my wife and I attended a riding course to learn more about riding and riding techniques. During this course, we rode bikes where, when you hit the friction zone and progressed forward in first, the bikes did not die. How can I adjust my clutch to that level on my star?

Is this an easy process to follow or should I lean more to a local shop?

Is there a direction that someone can point me to learn more about doing this?

The v star knowledge base has a write up on adjusting your clutch cable.

It's extremely easy.

I've looked into them. From what I can tell all they do is expand your friction zone. What I would like to do is adjust my clutch so my bike does not die when I roll off the clutch in first. However, if this is a bad thing for a bike, please let me know. I am new to the world of 2 wheels...

It sounds like it's a matter of getting used to your own clutch. Every bike is different, and you may have to add some throttle depending on the size of your motor and your gear ratio. I had to give throttle on my 600 and 750 or it would die, but not my 1300. Search you tube for Ride Like A Pro friction zone. That dude can show you way better than I can explain it.

If the bike is stalling out when you let off the clutch in first, you just need to give it more gas. I have ridden 600s, 750s, 1000s, 1200 harleys....My 1100 is much different in that you really needed to give it some gas to get going - and at the same time had a much smaller friction zone.

It took me a bit to get used to at first, youll get it

I'm able to slow roll using the clutch on my 1100 just fine.

Unless the bikes you rode in the motorcycle course had the idles set way high (to make them harder to stall) I didn't think a bike is supposed to do that. I've never ridden anything where you don't have to give it gas while letting the clutch out. Street bike, dirt bike, four wheeler, car, truck, whatever. If you're looking to make your bike so it's harder to stall just turn up the idle. Other wise just twist the throttle a little and be on your way. Why would you take off and not get on the gas?
The small friction zone on the v star is quickly learned after a few rides. I'm so used to it now I prefer it.
