A little bit PO'ed!

I was out in the garage this afternoon and installed my new windshield and decided to fire it up and let it run for a bit like I usually do 1 or 2 times a month. Any ways smelled anti freeze and then saw steam, then a small puddle of anti freeze on the garage floor! As soon as the fan kicked on it dried off the radiator but could see it was coming from the left side middle of the radiator. WTH! This bike is pampered with only 7057 miles on it. Of course called the dealer where I bought it from and am friends with the guy to hopefully see if they will get me a new radiator and be done with it. Just a bit po'ed, this thing is in a garage all year long and taken very good care of. Anyone else deal with Yamaha with bikes that are out of warranty but basically brand new.

Tough break.

I went out in the middle of winter, after having the bike in layup for two months, and found a flat front tire with a 1/4 body fastener crammed into it down to the head. I have a 5 year road hazard warranty so I only paid for the rear (upgraded to Exedra Max). It definitely could have been worse.

I've heard of other radiator problems (this is the first Yamaha one I've heard this season, though) and I'm considering a more substantial guard.

Its just frustrating, I take such good care of it and I know its only one thing BUT it's such a rare and expensive thing! 419.00 for a new one and as my luck would have it the guy (who is one of the owners) is off all week and I don't know the other sales guy (who is the other owner) too well. I think this dealership is going down hill real fast, when I called today to talk to "my guy" he was off all week which is fine but they had no other sales people or anyone who could help me out which left me scratching my head a bit. She actually said her and 1 mechanic and 1 parts guy are the only ones going to be there. WTH!

Our shop has been busy all winter. One salesman, the owner, 2 behind the counter and 3 mechanics. They've had a lot of business from snowmobilers who decided not to take their rides north and just stayed in town with them.

If you can't get a good deal from your dealer, check out http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com/ if you're willing to put it in yourself. They are known for very fair pricing on OEM parts. They list :

Radiator Comp
3D8-12461-10-00
$299.59

That's part only, of course. If anything, you know they have some wiggle room.

Thanks Sparkn, Well I found the problem, the upper radiator hose clamp was not tight enough. I was sitting here thinking I would go out and take another look. I didnt have a good light then got one and found it was leaking from the hose. I go about 6 turns out of it, wiped it all off and let it run for about 20 minutes and no leaks. Thanks again for the help!

Me too! Thanks guys, but I still think this dealer is going to be very insignificant in the next couple years around here. I mean what dealership has no salesman available. IDK just glad its fixed, thanks again

Depending on where you are at they wont have to many working and or on staff during the off season. April - October they will be there for sure.

If you were working for commission and 99% of your yearly sales happen during the peak time youd take vacation during the off season as well and probably approve to let most go on top of that. In the long run and no I am not poiking the bear you are just a small fraction of their client base.

Now not having at least someone there is crap but I am willing to bet if you took it there someone would have helped you. Over the phone not as much but you have to understand that you were very specific on who you wanted to deal with.

Glad you got the problem fixed though without much fuss. In the future always check radiator connections they heat up during riding and expand and when they cool they shrink and back and forth and they will come loose quickly. I use to put tight marks on mine back in the day so it was a quick glance and you can tell it was loose.
